Vicious Car Accident Strikes Dasma Player

Dasma guard Van Wesley Lim has been injured in a car accident last night after colliding with a Manila Dogyota while shooting a video for his future presidential campaign.

Lim, the former president of his block, has avoided potential political scandal by leaving his party and moving to the CE demographic. However, due to the move Lim has lost all the political powers that he once held. Lim, seeking to reclaim said authority, has opted to campaign for a yet-to-be-disclosed position. In campaigning, Van had signed well-known (and much-derided) film director Uwe Boll to film a new campaign video to elicit fervor from the voters. According to Boll, the video was to show Lim jumping across a Manila Dogyota in order to show his athleticism while also advertising Lim's new shoe, the Vantasia 3.0 . The scene was filmed in Quezon Ave., with a private portion of the streets being rented out for the shoot.

However, the filming went awry after the Manila Dogyota collided with Lim while he was jumping. Lim went on to sustain various injuries, and had to undergo a serious egoectomy at the Chinese General Hospital.

Various factors are now being examined by the police to determine the cause of the accident. The driver, known only as "Mr. Ge-Pu-Ke", disappeared after the incident, and there are rumors that Lim had slighted the driver during his previous revealing of the "Meme-Na" scandal. Another possible reason, as stated by Lim's political rivals, is Lim's below-average athleticism. As PCBL commissioner JPO stated in a press release early today, "White men can't jump."

This accident is not the first for the potential political candidate. During his highschool stint, Mr. Lim reportedly fell into a river while playing basketball. Through his previous political campaign, Lim had denied this occurrence, though BSPN sources have confirmed this particular incident to be factual.

Rocky Sy Involved in Major Accident

Dasma forward Ralph "Rocky" Sy was involved in a major accident, as his car was completely annihilated early Thursday in Manila.

Ralph Sy, a licensed driver, was hit by an oncoming car Thursday morning. The incident was televised and the Dasma player was even interviewed on the car crash.

Sy's car received considerable damage in the incident. Pictures will be posted soon on BSPN.

There is speculation that this occurrence was not merely an accident. Sy was reported to have spent the previous night in a famous "spa" in Quezon Avenue. After spending the evening "making it rain", as bystanders have put it, Sy may have been targeted as an athlete flaunting his newly-signed Dasma contract worth 600 Aktivade over 6 months.

Dasma officials have yet to comment on the accident. When asked by BSPN officials, Dasma officer Geordan Ong was still in the dark about the particulars of the incident.

"We will get to the bottom of the incident before we make any specific comment," said Ong in a press release Friday evening.

Sy has not reported any significant injuries from the crash. Since Dasma has not scheduled any games, Sy will not miss any time on the court either.

President Lim Approval Rating Sinks to Record Lows

Lasallian President Van Lim's approval rating has sunk to record lows this past week, as only 27.69 percent of his blockmates wish for the Dasma SG to remain their block president.

Lim, never an officer during his illustrious HS career in Dasma, has attempted to enter the world of politics in De La Salle University, with initially successful results. Armed with a new short hairdo and a then-hidden past, the Dasma G was able to fool his blockmates into voting him as block representative. Lim was even recruited to become one of the Black Parade, a pseudo-political cult bent on brainwashing the Lasallian masses into submission.

Van's true self would emerge, however. As his "touchy" self presented itself to his blockmates, he also showcased his dubious platforms, such as a partnership with Headblade Inc., a company best known for sponsoring the gay NBA player John Amaechi. A further blow to his popularity was his State of the Block Address, which was originally planned as a holiday but was eventually pushed through as a regular school day, forcing his block to undergo a tough exam right after listening to his speech.

Lim's term will last for another 4 or so years, but his critics are already forecasting an early conclusion to his term. An impeachment bill has already been submitted to the Senate, and it is currently discussion. Van Lim has stayed silent on his current popularity (or lack thereof).

PCBL Free Agency 2007

Free agency is upon us once again, with no shortage of big names once again looking for some big paydays. Big names like Theus Dy and Gerald Ke are both entering free agency, and could either resign with MNM or seek greener pastures elsewhere. Here's a look at this year's best bets:

Theus Dy, PG

Theus Dy has had a rough year, having bouts with injuries, suspensions, and benchings. Lost in the shuffle in MNM, Dy might look to rejoin Team Dasma or even sign with the Hellboys. Despite seeing very little playtime for MNM, most experts agree that Dy still has some life in his legs. A highly-regarded defensive player and a dangerous slasher, the mercurial G could become a strong energy guy for any team. At this point, Dasma seems to be Dy's preferred destination, with a large amount of his success coming while playing there. However, do not be surprised if the PG resigns with MNM for the money, as MNM can pay him the most.

Gerald Ke, C

The potentially devastating center has seen his progress slow down a bit as of late. However, a recent exhibition game of former and current Dasma players once again showed Ke's tantalizing upside. The center held his own rebounding against Dasma's veteran big men and was able to block some shots as well. His offensive game is still very raw, but on defense alone he should be able to persuade any GM to invest some big bucks. Once again, MNM can pay him the most, but MNM management may not wish to sign two high-priced, long-term contracts. MNM has always been higher on Ke though, so expect the slotman to be back in the yellow and blue sooner than later.

Hans Chua, G

Chua, the veteran G, has been disgruntled with his role in MNM, and sat out the end of last season's campaign in protest. With his contract expiring, look for the lithe guard to sign elsewhere. Expect some rust however. The guard played off-standard in the Dasma exhibition game and struggled with his ballhandling and shooting.

Christian Sy, C

Sy put together a disappointing campaign last season, failing to build on a stellar rookie campaign. The pivot struggled to score on a loaded Dasma team and was tentative on both ends of the floor. His self-imposed sabbatical in order to pursue his musical career not only channeled Ron Artest but also pulled Sy further down in the Dasma rotation. Playing for the first time in a while, Sy also struggled in the Dasma showcase, and failed to renew team interest in the pivot's services. However, with Ke and Sy the only two decent pivots available, expect Sy to be paid big by the team that fails to win the Ke sweepstakes.

MNM Center Franz Yao officially married his fiancee Lieutenant Superintendent Dy of the AFP. They wedded in Camp Crame and there was some games like paint ball and mine sweeping. There are so many beautiful women in the AFP, especially the 5 star general, Aaron Chan said. It was a happy event but a sad event for Dasma Center EJ Sy, he was seen downing barrels of San Mig Light after the wedding.

Rookie Report

Last year's crop of rookies included many promising players, such as Dasma center EJ Sy, MNM guard Marvin Chua and centers Gerald Ke and Jansen Calalan. This year's batch looks even more promising, with each team having at least 1 rookie playing significant minutes. Here is a little overview of this season's rookies and how they're doing.

Rendell Calalan, PG, MNM

The junior Calalan was proclaimed as DNF's point guard of the future before the P2W merger put his PT in jeopardy with the presence of Theus Dy at his position. Fortunately for him (if not for MNM), Dy has yet to appear for the team, and that has allowed Calalan to play extended minutes. He had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals against Dasma in MNM's most recent game. The guard has quickly proven himself a decent all-around player and a solid shooter in his short PCBL tenure. His playmaking and defense should help take some pressure of scorer supreme John Dino, and help MNM climb the ranks.

Bryant Lim, SF, MNM

Bryant Lim's debut for MNM was a memorable one, as he had 56 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks in DNF's win over P2W. He has continued to play well, with only a quiet night in the Dasma-Hell+DNF matchup marring an otherwise excellent season. He has established himself as one of the best scoring forwards in the PCBL, with the ability to finish inside and hit the three. He is one of the likely candidates for PCBL ROY. He is also a productive defender, as he can rebound and block shots. He quickly entrenched himself at the 4 spot at DNF, replacing veteran Kerwin Ng, and had become the team's No. 2 option. His role hasn't changed as a member of MNM, as the forward is one of his team's key building blocks, and looks to have a bright future in the PCBL. He will be a key in carrying MNM to the upper echelon of the PCBL.

Aldrich, PG, Hellboys

Aldrich has quickly made a name for himself in the PCBL, as he became a starter in his first game in PCBL, with the Hellboys, no less. Aldrich has played solid defense in his games with Hell, and has proven a decent distributor in the Hellboys offense. While his shooting is not yet as deadly as some of his teammates', his athleticism and quickness has already paid dividends for Hell, and those physical talents may help him develop into one of the PCBL's premiere PGs. It should be interesting to see how much the guard will play when regular Hellboy PG Harwin Chen returns from his exile overseas.

Ken, SF, Hellboys

Ken has similarly established his role with the Hellboys as a defensive presence and hustle player on the defensive-minded roster. His long and lanky frame has proven effective for the Hellboys D, though his offensive skills have yet to emerge for his team. Nonetheless, he should be able to become a strong rotation player for his team. Once again, it has yet to be determined how much the forward will play when the regular Hell roster returns.

Milton Ang, SF, Dasma

Milton Ang made a quick mark in the PCBL, as he scored a career-high 34 points against DNF, second only to BCML's aforementioned 56. Though he is scoring in double-digits, his most important role in Dasma is on defense, as he is tasked with defending the PCBL's best every night. He has also been a key part of Dasma's running game, as his points are mostly scored on strong drives and fast breaks. The athletic swingman has been able to find his role in the loaded Dasma lineup, and is one of the prime candidates for PCBL Rookie of the Year. If some of his other basketball skills can develop, Ang has the potential to become one of the PCBL's premiere players.

Kenneth Co, SG, Free Agency

Co was signed by MNM to a free agent contract after going undrafted. He was able to appear in the MNM-Hellboys game and was able to produce one steal in the absence of F BCML. He was released soon after though. Co is now playing in Visayas.

Kevin Te, PG, Free Agency

Te also appeared in the MNM-Hell game as an injury replacement for Rendell Calalan at PG. The guard was signed after a strong season in the Binondo Basketball League (BBL). He was able to produce 16 points and 8 rebounds, but he shot a mere 7/21 from the floor. The shooter was also released after the game. He now plays in the BBL once again and is a candidate for the BBL All-Star game.

Kenny Te, SG, Free Agency

Kenny Te was another of MNM's signings for the Hellboys game. The guard was also playing in the BBL with his brother when he was signed by MNM. The guard was able to score 7 points in the game but was also dropped after the match. He has since made a return to the BBL as well.

Greg Leethiakim, SG, Free Agency

Leethiakim made his debut against Dasma, and scored 15 points, all on threes. It is unknown whether the guard had been kept by MNM after the Dasma game though most reports see a fate similar to the Te brothers for Leethiakim. He would most likely play in the Ilog Basketball League if he is released.

Bernard Uy, C, Free Agency

Uy was one of DNF's projects, as they saw hopes of a Primoz Brezec in him. Sadly, the center was unable to play behind Ervin See and Jansen Calalan, and was released in the wake of the P2W-DNF merger. He is now pursuing an acting career.

Kevin Ang, SF, Free Agency

Ang played in DNF's upset of Team Dasma, but was mostly nailed to the bench, as he played the same position as BCML. He was also released in the merger, but has since rejoined the team as its the team's online design head.

Kelvin Wong, C, Free Agency

The center's draft rights had long been held by P2W, and he has yet to see play in the PCBL as the slotman was released in the merger as well. He has now joined the Man Scouts and was last seen conquering Mount Everest.

Team Report Card: Dasma

Dasma: Perfect Formula or
Ticking Time Bomb?

With the Dasma-Hell game in the record books, every PCBL team has now played each other. As such, the BSPN Report Card will evaluate the play of each PCBL team so far this season.

Team Dasma is the hottest team in the league off the heels of two big wins over MNM and the Hellboys. The team offense is clicking and the acquisition of stopper Milton Ang and the signing of Kurt Ty have all been great developments for the team this year. Is this finally the season wherein Dasma pushes through into the upper echelon of the PCBL?

OFFENSE

Team Dasma's offense has long been dogged for its general ineffectiveness despite several big names in the lineup. Dasma has long been criticized for poor ball movement, player movement, and outside shooting. All three have been remedied with the newly implemented offensive system, to an extent. The move of Gerald Hernandez to point guard on offense has reaped good results, as he has put up phenomenal numbers (22 points, 11.5 assists, 11 rebounds in past 2), and opened up the once-congested Dasma offense. The reinvention of JR Tan from PG to a mid-range specialist SF has also proven effective. Marvin Ang has recovered from a slump after being moved off the ball. Kurt Ty's presence, when available, has given the team a low post presence capable of fighting the Hellboys' Brian Lam, and has allowed PF Mark Gue to play his preferred role of flanking another big. The new blood provided by Milton Ang has helped the team on the break, as the team's running game has improved. The team is doing well in its new fast-paced drive-and-kick offense, as players are playing to their strengths in the offense, with Ang spotting up, Tan playing in-between, and Hernandez driving. Players like Ralph Sy and Van Lim have also seen their offensive numbers improve in the new system. While most things are clicking for now, one that hasn't is the outside shooting. The team has attempted more outside shots in recent games, but the production hasn't dramatically improved. They will have to improve on that aspect soon, as they are easily the least productive outside-shooting team in the league. While their slashing and and inside game are doing well, they could be shut down by a strong zone if the outside shot isn't falling, especially if Brian Lam and Carl Kuason are both healthy. Also a concern is if this period of strong play is just that, a period. Unlike MNM or Hell, Dasma's new setup has only been seen twice against PCBL competition. Dasma has long been known for frequent position changes and they may choose to change it again when the offense isn't working. Only time will tell if the new Dasma offense will stand the test of time or if other teams can study and break it, just like the Timberwolves zone was broken a few years back. For now though, it has to be considered a success.

Grade: B+

DEFENSE

Defensively, the addition of Milton Ang has given Dasma another stopper in addition to Royce Ong and Ralph Keng. The team plays straight man so this is a boon for the team. Most Dasma players play hard on defense due to the no-defense-no-play policy enforced in the team. Dasma's bread and butter on defense is to force jumpers and dominate the boards. The plan is working well as Dasma is the best rebounding team in the league, with Ty, Gue and Keng grabbing double-digit boards, and others like Tan and Tiu also getting a decent amount of caroms a night. The team also relies on full-court press to create turnovers, with players like Ong, Tiu and Lim known for their ball pressure. The team has gotten tougher on defense, as seen in the physical Hell-Dasma matchup. Most of its players have been working hard on defense, as defense has become one of the main concerns for the team in the high-scoring PCBL, but also because of the aforementioned no-D-no-PT policy. A concern for the team is that it lacks the intimidation factor that Hell possesses. Though the inside players are actually fairly impressive, they don't block shots at the rate the Hell frontcourt does, which has led to this syndrome. Players like John Dino have been able to score when they can get into the paint, as Dasma doesn't have the jack-rabbit inside guy to block the shot. Dasma's defense is good, but it lacks the relentless and intimidating aura that the Hell defense possesses. However, if the defense continues to impress, and if they can get another shotblocker inside, they may be able to reach that stature in time.

Grade: B+

PERSONNEL

Dasma has been very busy with its personnel this year. Its two acquisitions, Milton Ang and Kurt Tty, have both been some of the best acquisitions in the PCBL. Ang has given them a boost on both ends of the court with his slashing and defense, while Ty gives them even more rebounding as well as an athletic inside big to combat Brian Lam. Marvin Ang's recruitment has been lauded because of the acquisition of the two players. The recent lineup shakeup also deserves praise, with Hernandez's move to PG revitalizing his play. JR Tan's choice to return to Dasma has also been a stroke of luck for the team, as his scoring and rebounding have complemented the new offensive system. The ability of Dasma to keep Royce Ong from jumping ship to MNM must also be praised, as the forward has develped into a glue guy for the team. The No-D-No-PT policy implemented this year has helped the team improve its defense as well as distribute playing time, the latter being a large concern in a team as loaded as Dasma. Which leads us to the team's main concern. The team, with all its talent and depth, has been hot in the past two games. Their overall play has been crisp and unselfish. But it wasn't earlier. One has to wonder whether this current streak of hot play can be maintained by the team. The expectations have been raised, and it is unknown how the team will respond to the heightened pressure. Just like the Dallas Mavericks this year, Dasma might just flame out if they aren't careful. The players are also in competition for playing time, as the new acquisitions have made playing time a premium at Dasma. They're winning, but few know if all is well in the locker room. The Portland Trailblazers comparison made earlier is not been as far fetched as it may seem. One can remember Van Lim's elevated play in his contract week, and how it allowed him to resign with Dasma after rumors of him being dropped. Other players may need to do the same thing when their contracts are expiring, and team concept and chemistry may suffer because of it. The contract situation in Dasma is not particularly rosy, with various contract extensions looming around the corner. Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell both became cancers for the T'Wolves in their contract year and Dasma might have to contend with a similar situation if their cap situation is not remedied. Nonetheless, for now, Dasma's team is loaded, and it has shown in the standings.

Grade: B+

FINAL WORDS

Dasma, as mentioned, is the hottest team in the league. But not everything that is hot stays hot. Dasma's stock has most definitely risen with its two convincing wins, but they have to remember not to be complacent. If the team begins to bicker, Dasma may have a hard time living up to the higher expectations. Still at this point, Dasma is finally playing up to its potential. Whether it stays that way will now be one of the PCBL season's biggest storylines.

Dallas Lost for a Reason

Earlier today, Dallas was blown out by the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first 1 seed to lose to a no. 8 since Seattle when they got upset by the Nuggets back in the 90s. In the game, Dirk Nowitzki had another off-night, with 8 points on 2/13 shooting. Dirl will take most of the blame for the huge upset, but BSPN has discovered why Dirk played so poorly this series. Team Report Card: Hellboys

With the Dasma-Hell game in the record books, every PCBL team has now played each other. As such, the BSPN Report Card will evaluate the play of each PCBL team so far this season.

The Hellboys have long been THE dominant team in the PCBL. Led by athletic big men Carl Kuason and Brian Lam, as well as a plethora of talented and high-scoring wingmen, the Hellboys won a startling amount of games, with the exclamation point being an undefeated streak over Team Dasma. Quite simply put, Hell dominated.

However, it seems as if Hell has frozen over (pardon the wordplay), as Hell has looked very much mortal this year, with their undefeated streak over Dasma snapped earlier in the year and another loss to the team earlier in the week. The aura of invulnerability that surrounded the team is not as imposing as it once was. Here's a report of the season so far.

OFFENSE

The Hellboys have long brandished their balanced offensive act. Brian Lam and Jon Sia handle the rough stuff inside, while their guards, including stalwarts such as Marvin Yu, Raymond Tan, Ryan Cu, and Harwin Chen, rain down jumpers. Carl Kuason does both jobs, as shown in his 33 point performance against MNM, which included various drives mixed with triples. The Hellboys make a living on the offensive boards, with Lam leading the cause. Even if the Hellboys miss their first shot, teams will have difficulty in preventing the second, and then the third, and so forth. Lam's ferocious rebounding makes certain that Hell gets those second chance opportunities, and players like Lester Sy and Marvin Yu do their job in scrapping for the offensive board. That makes it quite demoralizing for the other team, as many good sequences on defense are wasted when Lam putbacks the miss, or even worse, kicks it out for a three. Though team has no true point guard, they take very good care of the ball and are unselfish enough, which makes the offense very fluid. The team's outside corps is very capable of hitting the three, with players like Cu and Dolo hitting a good amount of threes. Inside, Jon Sia has shown his worth as an inside scorer, and Lam will get his share of points off his athleticism. But what makes this team that much more dangerous is when Carl Kuason and Marvin Yu start clicking. Yu has a phenomenal in-between game, which has proven to be difficult to guard. When he is hitting his pull-up jumper and the three, the Hell offense really gets going. At the same time, Kuason's all-around offense is terrific. If his J is falling, his drives are much less easily contested. When one, or both, are hot, very few teams can really prevent the team from scoring.

That is exactly what happened against MNM. However, a key problem in their offensive formula is that it fails when one of their players are missing. Against Dasma, the absence of Kuason and Lam's hobbled foot really hurt the team. Since the roster is so small, nobody can really compensate when one of their big guns is out. The team is trying to integrate two new players, Aldrich and Ken, into the rotation as well, which is causing some problems on the offensive end. Still, when the two are finally in tune with the rest of the team, good things will happen. Aldrich in particular could become the team's primary PG. Still, the team always faces big questions when one of their players is missing, and it has showed.

Grade: B+

DEFENSE

The Hellboys are well-known for their swarming, physical brand of D. Their guards play physical and use their quickness to pick of passes or steal the ball outright. That said, their guards are a bit like MNM's, gambling for steals often. Unlike MNM though, Hell has Carl Kuason and Brian Lam in the paint to deny the shot. The intimidation factor of the two is undeniable. Kuason in particular is a very animated shotblocker, and will demoralize opponents with trash talk as well. This forces opponents to rely on the jumper, often with less-than-stellar results. Those guards gamble but are apt defenders as well, as shown when guards like Marvin Yu, Raymond Tan and Harwin Chen get blocks. Yu is known as a great defender. The two rookies, Aldrich and Ken, both play hard on defense, and have fit in very quickly. As a unit, the Hellboy defense truly lives up to its namesake.

Still, once again, the Hellboys have some difficulty when their low post intimidators are not present. Without them, the guards are forced to gamble less, which reduces their effectiveness. In the Dasma game wherein Kuason and Lester Sy were absent and Lam was nursing a foot injury, the Hellboys had difficulty containing the drives of Dasma players, which discombobulated Hell's defensive sets. Behind Lam, Kuason, and Sy, they really only have Sia as a true interior player, and Sia can be gotten by quicker big men, as Mark Gue demonstrated. They lack bodies inside, though what they have is certainly no joke. It's just that the recurring injuries are taking a toll on the team. Nevertheless, when lineup is complete, the Hellboys defense is one of the league's very best.

Grade: A

Personnel

With the aforementioned dominance, Hell has had little reason to try tinkering with its formula. That said, before Aldrich, Mark Dolo, and Ken, very few others have actually been added to the team. That said, the Hellboys have the most conservative and egalitarian roster in the league, with smart contracts and a low overall payroll. The clause on Lam's injuries have allowed Hell not to pay a penny of his contract, which was a stroke of brilliance for whoever drafted it. Still, the conservative nature of the team has raised the ire of some critics, who say that the team could be left behind in the ever-changing climate of the PCBL, with player movement at an all-time high. The Hellboys have yet to make an acquisition in the vein of Dasma's acquisition of Kurt Ty or the DNF-P2W merger. That said, the Hellboys are like the Spurs in a sense. They know their bread and butter and roll with that. Their most daring acquisition as of today is Mark Dolo, a rangy forward with suspect toughness. But even he has started to buy into the Hellboy School of Defense (5 rebounds and 4 blocks against Dasma). Aldrich and Ken are already fitting in defensively, though Ken is still struggling on the other end of the floor. We have already mentioned Aldrich's potential as a PG. However, Hell still looks a bit thin inside, as the big-time frontcourt is now looking a bit pale against Dasma's own loaded group of forward-centers. In the face of numerous injuries, they don't really have much of an insurance policy when a key player is out. This year, that has finally come back to haunt them.

Grade: B-

Final Words

With the team looking vulnerable, many critics are deeming the Hell era a thing of the past. With the success of Team Dasma and the looming potential of MNM, those assumptions aren't without reason. But don't count Hell out. If healthy, this team can beat, or dominate, anybody. That's a big if, though. Still, the team has a lot of fire left in them. It's just that the other teams are going to put up more of a fight than anybody expected. Expect another stellar season, but another championship may not be as easy as originally expected.

MNM: Team On The Rise or
Perennial Underdog?

With the Dasma-Hell game in the record books, every PCBL team has now played each other. As such, the BSPN Report Card will evaluate the play of each PCBL team so far this season.

MNM, lovechild of former PCBL teams DNF and P2W, has stumbled out of the block, dropping its matchups against both Dasma and Hell. Here is an overview of key aspects of the team this year.

OFFENSE

There was no question that MNM was supposed to John Dino's team. BCML had his moments in DNF, and both Theus Dy and Jefferson Hernaez shared top billing in P2W, but everybody knew that Dino would be the catalyst to MNM. MNM's play has done nothing to disprove the assumption. Dino has took a full 32% of his team's shots combined in both of MNM's games, easily the biggest percentage of any player in the league. But then that was expected. However, MNM's offense has sputtered, and that has contributed to the losses. DNF was always a jump-shooting team, but the acquisition of P2W was supposed to provide scoring balance to the team. It hasn't happened.

A big problem for MNM is that it is still a jump-shooting team. Though Dino and BCML both score their share of points in the paint, the rest of the team just isn't creating anything inside. The team's two best interior players, Jansen Calalan and Gerald Ke, just aren't producing enough in the shaded area. The absence of Theus Dy and Jansen Calalan, both slashers, is really hurting the ballclub. MNM's numerous acquisitions, such as the Te brothers and Greg Leethiakim, did nothing to change the team's outside-shot-happy disposition. "Kenyon Wong", while an excellent slasher, settled for jumpers as well in his tenure with the club. The lack of an inside presence is really hurting the team, as the jumpshooters can't get open due to the lack of a double-team-drawing big inside. Though Dino has done his part in driving and kicking, it is not enough. Gerald Ke, once anointed as the next big thing, has been generally ineffective. A big reason for this is the 3.0 shot attempts he's taking per game. Though Ke is not that good of a scorer yet inside, he has to at least get some touches in the paint. Ditto for Calalan. If they do so, shooters can get freed up and open shots will come. As its stands, MNM is hurt by the fact it lives and dies by the long ball. Dino is the only player in the team that can really create his own shot. BCML scores, but mostly on kickouts, garbage buckets and spot-up threes. Everyone else just spots up and shoots. Rendell Calalan could become an excellent penetrator, but he's not there yet. Theus Dy, Hernaez, and Hans Chua, all decent slashers, are inactive. MNM will have to balance out its scoring to really improve, and that is fact. While the Chicago Bulls are also primarily a jump shooting team, they at least have a bunch of slashers to open things up and an amazing defense to back it up. MNM has neither. Nonetheless, the combination of Dino and Lim is still very effective and is worth 55 or so points a night. When the outside shooting is hot, MNM is hard to stop.

Grade: B

DEFENSE

Another thing that is hurting MNM is that the team is still soft on defense, especially inside. Once again, the P2W merger was supposed to remedy that, but it hasn't happened. Gerald Ke has yet to become the intimidator inside, and Calalan is not really up to that task. MNM relies on steals to get its stops, which does cater to its quick lineup, but will probably fail against a veteran ballclub, like say, Dasma and Hell. When your shooting guard is second in both blocks and rebounds, as Dino is for MNM, there has to be a problem. The problem is that Ke is too green to defend inside against the likes of Kurt Ty and Brian Lam, and Calalan is better suited to flank a strong defender, and not be that strong defender himself. Aside from those two, the interior corps is composed of Franz Yao, Kerwin Ng and Ervin See. Not very inspiring. On the perimeter, MNM does a decent job of denying passes and covering people, but an athletic slasher in the vein of Carl Kuason or Gerald Hernandez can still get into the paint, which, without that inside presence, is a problem. Dino is a good one-on-one defender, but his work on offense forces him to play on the ball only on occasion, like a Kobe Bryant. BCML blocks shots and rebounds, but he is better off the ball. MNM needs an intimidator inside and a stopper outside, preferably in multiples.

Grade: B-

Personnel and Management

We cannot blame MNM management for not trying. As mentioned, P2W was acquired to push this team over the top. However, it just hasn't happened. P2W stars Theus Dy and Jefferson Hernaez have both yet to appear for the ballclub, which immediately robbed them of a stopper and an inside presence. Their big time salaries are also hurting MNM big-time. Lemuel Lim was mysteriously waived, resigned, and then waived again. Lim was the hustle player and the defender that MNM sorely needed. Now, his only contribution is another negative cap hit. P2w players Daniel Lim and Yogi Bear, both of whom were improving players and solid contributors on P2W, have been nailed to the bench, which has hampered their development. Marvin Chua has been getting minutes but he still very green and has progressed slower than expected. Gerald Ke, an improving young player in P2W, has struggled in being rushed to big role and his development has slowed. He still lacks the veteran mentor that could help him improve. For now, the P2W merger has to be considered a bust.

Aside from P2W, MNM has not been discreet about acquiring new players. However, their acquisitions have not been very wise. As mentioned above, the last thing MNM needs is more spot-up shooters, yet they signed players who were just that. Though they were all subsequently released, their contracts are also still hurting MNM's cap situation. This means that MNM has even less chances of signing players they need. MNM put themselves into this hole in signing big names, rather than what the team needed. MNM now has the most bloated salary in the PCBL, mostly due to the huge contracts of Dy and Hernaez, as well as the yet-to-expire contracts of the Te brothers, Leethiakim, Lemuel Lim, Bernard Uy, Kevin Ang, Kelvin Wong, and Andrian Co. To add to the bleeding, several contracts are about to expire, including ROY candidate BCML's. MNM will have to find a way to resign the forward, or the team will really face tough times.

Another problem is the general distrust within the organization. As BSPN reported earlier, Hans Chua was given the short end of the stick, and so were the P2W players, who are now relegated to the bench. Dino himself has been displeased with the team, leading to his announcement of looking for another team. MNM isn't really a close-knit bunch, which may spell trouble against teams like Dasma and Hell, whose players have ties in and out of basketball.

Grade: B-

Last Words

Though MNM's current situation isn't as rosy as it was initially expected to be, don't count them out just yet. MNM still has some excellent talent. The duo of BCML and Dino is still fearsome, and if the P2W players can improve, MNM will finally have some needed depth. Still missing though are defensive presences both outside and inside, which means that MNM will need to be creative about their cap situation. MNM really isn't that far away, it's just that the road hasn't been discovered yet.

Team Dasma Fined 60 Aktivade

Team Dasma was all smiles after their win over the Hellboys last April 30, a 60 Aktivade fine might just wipe that smile off their faces.

Team Dasma was accused of playing 6 players on the court at the end of the Dasma-Hell game. Though the Hellboys were willing to bypass the violation, PCBL commissioner JPO was not as gracious.

As one of his possible final acts as commissioner, JPO levied a whopping 60 Aktivade fine on the team. He has also considered a suspension on Dasma swingman Van Lim, who was the odd man out in Dasma's lineup at the time.

Team Dasma officials were not available to comment on this issue. The Hellboys refused to say anything in fear that JPO would fine them as well.

League observers suggest that JPO was aware of his inevitable release by the team, and was thus trying to make life miserable for PCBL players while he still had power.

2.	John Dino		Dino's high scoring escapades continue. His sudden surge in rebounds (9.0 in last three), as well as blocks (2.0 in last three) are pleasant surprises.
3.	Kurt Ty		A DNP hurts Ty's ranking. Still, he has been very productive when playing. He had 38 and 26 against MNM in his last game.
4.	Carl Kuason		Also a victim of a DNP. The Hellboys' loss to Dasma shows Kuason's value to the team at both ends of the floor. They missed his inside presence on defense yesterday.
5.	Marvin Ang		Has transformed into a strong part of Dasma's high-scoring ensemble. Very efficient night against the Hellboys. Has recovered from a recent slump (.542 in last 2).
6.	Brian Lam		His foot injury affects his standing here. Expect him to rise again once his injury heals up. His big-time play against MNM was key (31 rebounds).
7.	Justin Tan	New Entry	Has lost his PG spot, but has been one of Dasma's best mid-range options. Has had a double-double in 3 of his last 4. "Retirement" did nothing to slow down the guard.
8.	Marvin Yu		Though his claim to fame is his defense, Yu is quietly one of the league's best scorers. He shot 63% against Dasma.
9.	Mark Gue	--	Gue showed flashes of his high-scoring self matching up against a slower Jon Sia yesterday. He had 12 and 12 on 6/7 shooting on a variety of athletic drives and putbacks.
10.	Jon Sia		Still, Sia did not embarrass himself, going for 16 and 8 of his own on 67% shooting. His finesse game inside is the perfect complement to Lam's rough play.
11.	Ralph Keng		Another DNP hurts Keng. Still, the forward is healthy after so many injury-plagued seasons. Did his thing against Hell, grabbing 16 rebounds and picking off 6 steals.
12.	Bryant Lim	--	Lim just edges out fellow rook Milton Ang for this spot, owing to the added defensive attention paid to BCML as a second option. He has been more productive than Ang at this point in the year.
13.	Milton Ang		Though he shot poorly against Hell, Ang was instrumental in containing Dino for Dasma against both MNM and Hell. The ROY race isn't over yet.
14.	Ralph Sy		He has quietly been a consistent and effective scorer for Team Dasma, averaging 14, 5, and 3 over his last 3.
15.	Ryan Cu		A small drop for Cu, as other people had big nights. Still his scoring has been consistent and his shooting is still key for the Hellboys team.
16.	Jansen Calalan		He is MNM's most consistent big man, and his brings needed toughness to the club. He could score a little bit more, though.
17.	Gerald Ke		Big drop for Ke. He played poorly against Dasma, grabbing only 4 rebounds. His once-prodigious development has oddly screeched to a halt, a big concern for his team.
18.	Rendell Calalan	New Entry	He has been named as MNM's PG of the future. His play against Dasma (11, 4, 4) doesn't refute those claims.
19.	Lester Sy		Similar to Kuason, Sy's absence shows how essential his play is to his team. His rugged play was missed in the Dasma-Hell matchup.
20.	Mark Dolo	New Entry	Dolo quietly leads the PCBL in 3P% at solid .500. His 9 point, 5 rebound, 4 block performance versus Dasma shows that his interior toughness is improving.
21.	Royce Ong	--	His shooting has still been erratic, but his defense and toughness have earned him a big role in Dasma's rotation.
22.	Van Lim		Though his 20-point game has been more of an aberration than a trend, his play has improved greatly. He has blocked a shot in each of his last three games.
23.	Ron Tiu		Tiu has not been hitting the J, but hard work on defense and the boards has allowed him to play minutes on a loaded Dasma lineup.
24.	Ervin See	New Entry	Quietly had 12 points and 5 rebounds against Dasma.
25.	Raymond Tan		Tan is playing defense, grabbing rebounds and passing the ball, but his shooting is still off, considering his ability to stroke the long ball.
26.	Aldrich	New Entry	Aldrich has given the Hellboys another long, fast, and athletic option. In the absence of Harwin Chen, he played PG for Hell and was able to dish out 4 assists.
27.	Geordan Ong		Ong has been consistent in his role in Dasma, which is to hit the occasional three and layup.
28.	Harwin Chen		Chen's temporary deportation to another country means that he'll drop in the rankings.
29.	Ken	New Entry	Like Aldrich, Ken gives Hell added depth and defense. The jury is still out on his offensive game, though.
30.	Greg Leethiakim	New Entry	Though we'll never know if he'll ever play in the PCBL again, he DID hit 5 triples in his only game with MNM.

Dino May Leave MNM

After playing with the Hellboys this afternoon, MNM guard John Chua Dino revealed that he was considering leaving the team he founded to play for another.

Dino announced this revelation during the post-game press conference. He said that he had already inquired with PCBL officials about a special draft to reassign Dino to a different team.

He did not mention whether MNM would disband if and when he leaves. MNM has been idle since a loss to Team Dasma. Noted PCBL stars Jefferson Hernaez and Theus Dy have both not appeared in PCBL play since the merger of their team P2W with DNF, and rumors have circulated that this is because of a disdain of becoming secondary options to Dino.

Dino reiterated that he was only considering this turn of events. He stressed that nothing was set in stone and that he might yet play for MNM.

Dino is one of the biggest stars in the PCBL and his announcement is big news, especially if he does move to play for Dasma or the Hellboys. Visit BSPN regularly to receive updates on the Dino situation.

Team Dasma Defeats Hellboys 112-93

The latest chapter of the PCBL's most-storied rivalry was written earlier today, as Team Dasma beat a shorthanded Hellboys team 112-93.

Team Dasma had lost the previous contest 86-81 missing its starters Mark Gue, Kurt Ty, and Gerald Hernandez. This time, it was the Hellboys who were missing players, as forwards Lester Sy and Carl Kuason, center Brian Lam, as well as guard Harwin Chen, were all unavailable. Kurt Ty did not play for Dasma again in this contest.

As such, Dasma took advantage by building a lead early, blitzing Hell with solid execution and defense. The Hellboys stumbled out of the gate, as they were stuck at 6 points for a decent amount of time.

However, the Hellboys' hopes were raised when Lam, as well as MNM guard John Dino, arrived at the arena to play for the Hellboys. Still, Dasma was able to push the lead to 32 before the Hellboys were able to mount a serious comeback, pushed on by Dasma turnovers and several jumpers by Mark Dolo, Marvin Yu, Ryan Cu, and John Dino.

Team Dasma was led by Gerald Hernandez, who followed up the first triple-double in PCBL history by having the first quadruple-double in history. He had 26 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and 10 steals. John Dino led the Hellboys with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 10 steals.

Dasma fans were holding their breath for JR Tan after an unfortunate series of events for the guard. JR Tan was left laying after having been accidentally clotheslined by the Hellboys during a fight for a loose ball. Just a few possessions ago, the guard collapsed under his team's basket after fighting for an offensive rebound. A Hellboys player also landed on the guard when JR Tan was able to grab a rebound after a Hell miss. Tan was able to recover from all three collisions with minimal damage.

"It was all for the good of the team," said Tan post-game. He had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The Hellboys were bothered by Team Dasma's physical play. Hellboys guard Ryan Cu, who had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals, called them the "new and improved Dasma". Hell had problems inside due to a hobbled Lam, who was able to grab 10 rebounds but struggled with an injured foot. Teammate Jon Sia was able to score 16 points and grab 8 rebounds to offset the injury, but was in turn was exploited by a faster Gue, who had 12 and 12.

Marvin Yu of the Hellboys had 22 points and 6 rebounds to bounce back from an off-night against MNM. Marvin Ang did likewise, having 18 points and 6 rebounds.
Aldrich and Ken, both of whom prefer to be referred to by only their first names, have been signed to long-term contracts by the Hellboys, as shown by their appearances in this game.

Former L2P player Kelvin Wong reached the peak of Everest within 30 days, a record that is as impressive as it gets. He was really challenged as he was not allowed to change clothes nor take a bath because of the extreme weather. He was joined by some 3 Tibetan bodyguards. He only brought 2 bags of food and 2 women to keep him warm at night. There have been reports that there were excesses of frozen icing in every place where he stayed during his trek. We wonder why....

Team Dasma Faces the Hellboys On Monday

A new chapter of the league's classic rivalry will be written this Monday, as Team Dasma plays the Hellboys at Dasma from 3-5 pm.

Both teams are coming off wins entering the game. Brian Lam had 14 points and 31 rebounds while Carl Kuason top-scored with 33 as the Hellboys beat MNM. Gerald Hernandez recorded the first PCBL triple-double and Kurt Ty had 38 points and 26 rebounds leading Dasma to victory as well.

The last game between these two teams was another of a series of competitive matchups, as the Hellboys walked away with the 86-81 win over a hobbled Dasma. Dasma is hoping to boast a more complete lineup on Monday. They may have to contend with the newest players in the rivalry, however, in Aldrich and Ken, who had their debuts against MNM. Dasma has not encountered the duo in PCBL play yet.

Many matchups between the two teams are worth paying attention to. Inside, Dasma's Kurt Ty and Mark Gue will battle with Hell's Brian Lam and Jon Sia. Ty and Lam are battling for the rebounding crown, while Gue and Sia are both All-PCBL talents in their own right. On the perimeter, Ralph Keng and Royce Ong will try to contain the Hellboy's superb scorer Carl Kuason and shooter in Ryan Cu, while Hell tries to contend with Dasma's Hernandez and Ang. Two of the league's best mid-range talents, Justin Tan and Marvin Yu, will also face off in the wings. Milton Ang, hated foe of the Hellboys due to extracurricular issues, may appear in the game, which should be interesting to see.

While both teams are high-scoring, expect more of a grind-it-out game on Monday, as both teams try to slowly establish a lead on the other. There may not be too many points scored, but don't expect a shortage of excitement. This is a game not to be missed.

Hans Chua to Leave MNM?

It appears that the honeymoon is over. MNM guard Hans Chua is rumored looking for a release from MNM due to his diminishing role with the club.

Hans Chua signed with the upstart DNF during its conception, leaving P2W for a more lucrative offer. He was said to be enamored by the starting position that had long eluded him in his PCBL career. DNF officials had long named Chua as the team's No. 1 PG and had penciled him into the team's long-term plans.

Sadly, things are not always what they seem. Chua's starting job was taken away when the sudden merger of P2W and DNF occurred. Still, Chua was convinced by team officials that he'd still have a prominent role as a sixth or seventh man, playing behind Theus Dy and John Dino in the backcourt.

The MNM officials' duplicity was soon uncovered with the reacquisition of Rendell Calalan. Though Calalan had been present in DNF, he played alongside Chua at shooting guard. Now, Calalan was immediately proclaimed as the team's "big-time third guard", and "the player we always needed". Chua's role quickly vanished with the new addition. His situation was made even more dismal with the subsequent signings of Kevin and Kenny Te, Kenneth Co, and most recently, Greg Leethiakim. All are now higher in the depth chart than Chua. The exclamation point was made when Chua caught a couple of DNPs in MNM's most recent games after the team opted to play those new players at the expense of Chua's playing time.

Chua still has 5 weeks left on his contract worth around 13 Aktivade, so it is not very attractive as trade bait. The team may opt to use its amnesty clause (best known as the Allan Houston rule) to provide cap relief for the team, who due to the cost of having to pay so many players, has the highest salary in the PCBL.

It is unknown whether Chua will continue playing if and when he is released. The Hellboys have yet to express interest in resigning the guard, and Team Dasma's glut in the backcourt is arguably worse than MNM's, which may lead to a hiatus or retirement by the guard.

Who is the Best Three-Point Shooter in the PCBL?

The PCBL has had a plethora of stellar three-point bombers step onto its courts, but today's cast of shooters may be its best group yet. Each of the PCBL's three active teams has its array of snipers. While MNM has shown the greatest affinity for the three (and Dasma the least), BSPN wants to find out who is exactly is the best three-point shooter in the PCBL today. Is it MNM's superb scorer John Chua Dino? Or perhaps rookie BCML? Ryan Cu of the Hellboys is as deadly as they come, and so is his running mate Carl Kuason. Dasma has a bunch of darkhorses in their lineup as well. Let's take a look..

Hellboys:

The Hellboys have two of the league's best three-point shooters in guard Ryan Cu and forward Carl Kuason. Cu has gained a prominent role in the team for his sweet stroke, as he has not had a game of less than two three pointers yet this year. He is averaging 2.5 three pointers a night. Meanwhile, the three is just one of Kuason's vast offensive arsenal, and a very effective one at that. He scorched MNM with 7/10 shooting from distance in their most recent game, and is averaging almost 4 threes a game this season, which is phenomenal. Aside from this dynamic duo, the team also other reputable shooters in Raymond Tan (2 3PM), Mark Dolo(3 3PM), and Marvin Yu (1 three per game), as well as solid-enough shooters in Brian Lam and Harwin Chen.

MNM:

MNM has its own share of strong three-point shooters, John Dino and Bryant Lim are both among the league leaders in that category, with Dino averaging 3.75 made per game and BCML hitting 2.33 a night this year. Both strike fear in the hearts of opponents, as they can hit even with hands in their faces. The two also have exceptional range, as they can hit two or even three steps behind the arc. Aside from the high-scoring pair, stalwarts such as Ervin See (1 per game), Greg Leethiakim (5 in his debut), Kevin Te (2 a game), and Rendell Calalan (1 per game), are all solid outside shooters. Which bodes well for the team, which as mentioned above relies a lot on the three-ball.

Dasma:

Team Dasma has a collection of solid outside shooters, as most of the team has at least attempted a triple this season. Marvin Ang has hit 5 triples this year, and Gerald Hernandez has made 4 of his own. Ang also has good range, as he can usually hit from a step or two behind the arc. The rest of the team shares the wealth, as Mark Gue, Royce Ong, Van Lim, Geordan Ong, Ron Tiu, and Justin Tan have all made threes this year. Still, most Dasma players shoot threes sparingly, opting to drive or pass instead. The team as a whole is not really a group that shoots a lot of threes, and thus limiting the makes as well.

Gerald Hernandez is BSPN Player of the Week

In its years of existence, the PCBL has never witnessed a triple-double performance from any of its players. Though many have tried, only this afternoon did anyone actually succeed in completing the fabled task. Gerald Hernandez gets BSPN Player of the Week for this momentous achievement, as he scored 18 points, had 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in helping his team to victory. He also had 6 steals and 2 blocks in the contest, disrupting the MNM offense. He shot a very efficient 8/13 from the floor and a solid 40% from three. His all-around play was one of the reasons Team Dasma was able to get the W today. That said, he just barely beats out teammate Kurt Ty and MNM guard John Dino for the honor. For historic accomplishment, Hernandez wins his first BSPN POW award.

Dasma Defeats MNM 137-110

Kurt Ty had 38 points and 26 rebounds and Gerald Hernandez recorded the first triple-double in PCBL history as Team Dasma exploited their inside advantage to defeat MNM 137-110.

Team Dasma was able to establish a lead early through a hot start by Hernandez and was able to fend off numerous comebacks by MNM to come out with the victory.

MNM's John Dino led the game with 41 points to go along with 8 rebounds and six steals. Bryant Lim scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds to go along with a game-high 4 blocks.

Hernandez had a historic night, scoring 18 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists to become the first player to achieve a triple-double in the PCBL.

"It is an honor to accomplish such an achievement. It's a great feeling to be able to do something like that." said a gushing Hernandez in the post-game report.

Milton Ang had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks, making his case for PCBL rookie of the year against BCML.

"May the best man win." said Ang after the game.

JR Tan made his oft-rumored return to the PCBL in the game. Though rumored to be favoring MNM, JR Tan apparently made the decision to resign with his former team, signing for a gargantuan 6-month, 65 Aktivade deal. He had 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals in the contest.

Many players who were expected to be absent for the game actually appeared. Marvin Ang, expected to skip the game, was able to play, though hampered by migraines. He scored 10 points. Meanwhile, MNM's Gerald Khe, who was down with muscle spasms, was able to play a few minutes for his team. He had 2 points and 4 rebounds.

Ervin See set career-highs with his 12 point, 5 rebound night. Rendell Calalan returned for MNM, and had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. 13th-hour signee Greg Leethiakim scored 15 points for MNM, all on threes.

Dasma was able to win the game by dominating play inside. They outrebounded MNM by a large margin, as shown by the double-digit rebounds of 4 Dasma players. MNM made it interesting by hitting numerous threes. Their tactic of getting new players every game has been fairly successful, as Dasma was initially shocked by Leethiakim's three point barrage.

Here are some other notes from the game:

Van Lim appeared in the contest but mysteriously disappeared halfway into it.
MNM's previous signings, Kenneth Co and the Te brothers, all did not appear in the game. It is unknown whether their contracts have expired.
The PCBL Rookie of the Year race is heating up. Milton Ang and Bryant Lim were both second in scoring for their respective teams so anaysts should have a hard time selecting one.
EJ Sy was once again missing for Team Dasma. Team officials refused to comment on his absence.
Vincent Ong once again played for Dasma. He had 2 points.

Ke Out For MNM

Dino's high-profile acquisition of MNM is not reaping the benefits that one would've thought it would.

Another of P2W's biggest names, center Gerald Ke, will not appear later in the match-up against Team Dasma due to muscle spasms.

Fellow P2W stars Theus Dy and Jefferson Hernaez ill also be absent for this afternoon's game.

This is a strong blow to MNM, as Ke was expected to start at center to help neutralize Dasma's interior. Teammate Jansen Calalan will be left to do that almost alone.

Dy and Hernaez Placed On Inactive List

It appears that the deep, talented squad that Dino envisioned when he bought the P2W squad for 60 pesos was only a pipe dream, as two of the defunct team's biggest stars, Jefferson Hernaez and Theus Dy, are not expected to play for the club in the immediate future.

Hernaez and Dy were both placed in the inactive list earlier today. The team cited "academic ineligibility" as grounds for the deactivation of the duo.

"We feel that the two of them are both extraordinary individuals who just happened to be great players as well. However, they are currently not fitting the vision that we have for MNM. It is best that they take some time off and fix up their grades in the process." said MNM team owner John Chua Dino in a press conference earlier today.

Hernaez and Dy have both had long, storied careers in the PCBL. Both were members of Team Dasma before defecting to found the upstart L2P. They were both assimilated into MNM when the merger with DNF was finalized. Dy has made his name by being one of the fastest players in the PCBL while Hernaez has found his niche as a scorer in the paint.

There have been rumors about the release or trading of either one, or both, of these players. They have been reported to be displeased with their diminishing roles as part of an ensemble in MNM. They have complained of being underpaid in the past and may leave the team after their contracts expire.

BSPN Preview: Dasma-MNM Part 2

As a continuation of the BSPN preview, here are some key players for tomorrow's matchup.

X-Factors

Team Dasma- Gerald Hernandez, Mark Gue

Though calling these two players as X-factors is a stretch, nobody will be more important in tomorrow's game for Team Dasma. Without JR Tan and Marvin Ang to share the ball with on the perimeter, Hernandez will get a chance to show what he's really made of. If he can create shots for himself and others, Dasma will have an easier time adapting to the loss of their starting backcourt. He'll need to play (and shoot) well tomorrow for Dasma to get a dub. Gue, similarly, will possibly have to make do without Kurt Ty flanking him inside. He has to find his dominant self and be a presence inside to prevent Dasma from relying on the long ball, which is exactly what MNM would prefer them to do. Gue must not only rebound and defend, but score 20 or so inside, as Dasma is now lacking its sizable interior with the absence of ( possibly) Ty and (probably) Sy.

MNM- Gerald Ke and Kevin Te

MNM's typically strong offense was off against Hell. One of the main culprits was Te, who as point guard was unable to create a good impression in his debut. He'll need to take the pressure of Dino and create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. Otherwise, MNM might be in for a long night. Meanwhile, Ke will have to rebound from a mediocre outing against Hell. He was unable to crack double figures and allowed Brian Lam to grab 31 boards. Though Ty may not be available for Dasma, he'll have to contend with Keng and Gue inside. He has to rebound to prevent Dasma from getting second chance opportunities, which is one of their strengths. He and Jansen Calalan will have their work cut out for them tomorrow.

BSPN Preview: MNM-Dasma

Tomorrow, Dasma meets MNM from 3-5 in a match that is sure to fast-paced and high-scoring. MNM comes in after a controversial loss to the Hellboys, with their star Dino scoring a career-low 23 in the contest. Dasma, on the other hand, has been inactive for a while, as their scheduled game versus the Sexballs did not push through. They are however, in a period of rebuilding, as point guard JR Tan and C JC Sy are all not expected to play for the team after being regulars in the rotation.

MNM hopes to show its deep roster after not being able to do so against the Hellboys. Jansen Calalan, Bryant Lim, Theus Dy, and Jefferson Hernaez all did not play against Hell. It should be interesting to see how they coexist with the Te brothers, Dino's new additions to the team.

Also deserving mention is the absence of Marvin Ang tomorrow. Much like Vince Carter, Marvin Ang will forgo tomorrow's game for school. No Dasma player has yet to react to this turn of events. Kurt Ty may also miss the game since he carpools with Ang, which spells trouble for Dasma tomorrow. To combat this, there is talk of forward Milton Ang returning to the team. No confirmation on this however.

JR Tan's status is still unconfirmed after rumors suggested that he might play for Dasma or defect to another team. It seems that we'll find out tomorrow where his loyalties lie. Or he may not play at all, which would be a shame.

JR Tan Contemplating Return

He's back. Maybe.

JR Tan is contemplating a comeback into the PCBL after a month-long retirement. If he does, he might just make it in time to play in the showdown between team Dasma and MNM on Thursday.

The only concern is the team that he would play for.

In a shocker, it seems that JR Tan has not committed to play for his former team, Dasma. He is, according to his agent, entertaining contract offers from Dasma, the Hellboys, and MNM. It appears that rumors of Tan's differences with certain players at Dasma were true, as this turn of events comes as a shock to PCBL veterans, who have known Tan as a Dasma player for his entire career.

Tan currently has no ties with any PCBL team and is a free agent. His contract with Dasma expired a while back and no clause has compelled him to sign with his former team.

JR Tan is thinking about the Aktivade he'll earn from a comeback

In fact, his agent has mentioned that MNM is apparently in the lead for Tan's services, due to the amount of money that was offered to him. His agent did not, however, mention Tan's thoughts about MNM's suddenly bloated backcourt with the additions of the Te brothers and Co.

The Hellboys' contract offer was said to be 120 Aktivade over 3 months, and MNM's was 70 over 6 weeks. Team Dasma's offer was not mentioned.

Tan's defection to another team may be a crushing blow to Team Dasma. Still without a point guard, Dasma may have been waiting for him to come back and reclaim his position. If he joins another team, Dasma will have no choice but to cultivate one of their current players into a PG or sign one off the waiver wire.

Lim is your typical hard-working roleplayer who gets minutes due to hustle and defense. Lim is a good on-the-ball defender, and can pick both the pass and the dribble, which made him valuable in P2W as a defender off the bench to spell Theus Dy. Lim has established himself as a decent player on the break, and can finish with a layup, which is more than you can say about some other PCBL players. Lim can be a strong defensive guard, which is good when you consider all of the scoring guards in the PCBL.

However, Lim will probably be stuck as a roleplayer. Aside from his defense and that layup, Lim hasn't really showed much in his tenure in the PCBL. He has a suspect jumpshot, and he is not much of a playmaker at the guard spot, so he won't score a lot of points for you. Basically, he'll play defense and get garbage buckets and that's that. He is similar to Team Dasma's Royce Ong, but more limited due to height and the aforementioned lack of a jumper. Still with work that can be developed. If it does, Lim will become an attractive prospect for teams looking for a stopper.

Dy is one of the PCBL's premiere point guards. With exceptional speed, quickness and athleticism, the guard is a terror on defense and one of the league's best players in the open court. He is arguably the league's fastest player. With that speed and a solid handle, Dy can get into the paint, exactly what you want from your point guard. He is a good playmaker, with the ability to get into the paint and create contact, score, or pass. He is also an excellent defensive players. As a member of Team Dasma, Dy used to play mostly because of his strong man defense, as he harassed opponents into turnovers and missed shots. With his move into P2W, Dy has established himself as one of the PCBL's top players.

Still, Dy's game has room for improvement. He can get into the paint, but he has a tendency to miss shots and force others, which deters from his playmaking. He needs to finish those shots to become effective. Also needing work is his outside jumper. While optimists will point out that Tony Parker is doing just fine without any range, Dy needs it because he has not shown the ability to finish like Parker does. He'll need to improve that J or improve his inside scoring, preferably both. Also warranting concern is Dy's average passing. Dy is more of a scoring guard than a point, but in a team already full of scorers, Dy will have to learn to become a true distributor. Otherwise, he'll be at a disadvantage playing the undersized 2. Nonetheless, Dy's physical talents and scoring ability will undoubtedly convince somebody to take Dy, probably in the 16-20 range.

Gerald Hernandez is one of Dasma's big guns at the wings. He is one of the PCBL's best all-around players, as he has the ability to pass, score, rebound. He is one of the league's most explosive drivers, and has the ability to either draw contact, pass, or finish in the paint, making him an effective offensive player. He has good quickness, and uses it by picking of numerous passes on defense and driving on offense. His play belies his height as well. Though shorter than some of his teammates, Hernandez continues to grab 5-8 rebounds a night using his length. All in all, he is one of the most productive players in the PCBL.

Hernandez still needs some polish though. Hernandez's outside shot has improved in his tenure, but he still needs to improve it to justify the his healthy amount of attempts. He has all the tools to be an effective defender, but he has a tendency to fall back and wait for steals or rebounds. If he can add some focus to his defensive coverage, he can become a much more attractive prospect. He may also force some shots in trying to draw fouls, which is all well and good if the refs are calling them, but may hurt the team offense if it doesn't. Still, Dwyane Wade does the same and he has become a Finals MVP for doing so. That said, if Hernandez can continue to improve, there is little reason he cannot become a premiere player, thus warranting a high selection.

Jefferson Hernaez is one of the PCBL's veterans, having played since the league's conception. He has shown his wares for multiple teams as well, having played for Team Dasma, P2W, and DNF. He is one of P2W's founding fathers, and is now looked upon by his peers as a leader. On the court, he has a nice inside game, scoring from the shaded area with a variety of moves. Faster than the opposing 4 but stronger and bigger than the opposing 3 man, Hernaez may be the best inside scorer in the PCBL. He does so with a great understanding of angles and surprising quickness, putting up his signature floater and a Duncan-esque bank shot. He was P2W's go-to guy inside, complementing Theus Dy's outside play. It would not be a stretch to see Hernaez become an instant contributor for any team, as his grit and inside play could help complement the guard-heavy PCBL.

But Hernaez is not without his flaws. Hernaez is a brilliant low-to-mid post scorer, but his outside shot needs to improve for him. Otherwise, defenses will back off and challenge him to shoot. As an inside player, his rebounding is average. He may also find trouble when facing multiple big men, given his average height. While he can take them one-on-one, he has trouble with the double-team, and could struggle with turnovers as a result. Hernaez can be a very strong supporting scorer, but as of now, nothing more. He'll need to expand his game to take himself to the next level. Still, his present abilities still make him very enticing as a second or third option, and thus a selection in the 10-19 spots.

Carl Kuason receives our retroactive BSPN Player of the Week after scoring 33 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing 4 assists in their win against MNM. Kuason's hot shooting (13/22 FG, 7/10 3P) fueled the Hellboys offense and allowed the team to reach triple-digits once again. He also shared the team lead in steals, with 3, as the Hellboys harassed MNM into a tough night without their lead guards. for this, Kuason is BSPN player of the week.

JPO to be Ousted As Commissioner

It was inevitable. Hiring somebody without any previous ties with the PCBL to become commissioner was a daring move, but one destined to fail. JPO, an outsider, was suddenly placed into the very inside of the league. Soon, he will once again be on the outside looking in, as his dismissal appears imminent.

JPO was proclaimed commissioner in the middle of March, replacing the previous committee-based system of JGO and Ralph Keng. He immediately named expansion as his primary goal in his tenure. The creation of H2P and the return of the Sexballs seemed to do that, and the merger of P2W and DNF was supposed to promote parity within the PCBL, leading the league to greater heights.

However, it seems that JPO will become nothing more than a bust. H2P and the Sexballs have both failed to appear in a game even up to this day. H2P is also now surrounded by various controversies, including rumors of their captain leaving the team to enlist in the military. the Sexballs also have the indignity of forfeiting a game against Dasma, and rumors of impersonation are now causing the team to become a laughingstock in the league. Also, it has recently been revealed that JPO has been neglecting his duties as commissioner. He has not been the one scheduling games for the league, as JGO, Aaron Bea, and Carl Kuason have all been secretly tasked to do so, and for no pay at that. It seems that JPO's relative ineptitude for the job will cause him to be released by the league sooner than later.

Good riddance JPO, we won't be missing you.

Lam is the cornerstone of the Hellboys attack. His rebounds and steals fuel Hellboy fast breaks, and his teammates can play aggressively on offense knowing Lam would rebound the miss most of the time. In addition, Lam could also be the most athletic player in the PCBL. That, coupled with good quickness and solid strength, makes him a beast on the boards and lets him easily grab double-digit boards every time out. Lam's offense is solid as well, as he can score at least 10 a night on putbacks alone. Lam evokes the game of Stoudemire and G. Wallace, as Lam scores without having plays called for him, relying on athleticism to get points,scoring on the aforementioned putbacks as well as on the break. He also has an awkward shooting motion, much like a Shawn Marion. That said, it is plausible that Lam could also develop into the 22-12-2-2-2 monster Marion was in his best season.

Still, Lam has some holes in his game that need to be straightened out. Lam's offense, while solid, needs work. Lam has a tendency to miss his putback shots, which often wastes the effort he exerted in grabbing the O-board in the first place. His midrange game is iffy at best. So is his three, because of his improvised shooting motion. He isn't a terrifying shotblocker as you'd expect from his athleticism either. His basketball IQ is not all that impressive, what he is today came from his physical gifts and sheer determination. While this is offsetting, imagine what he could become given a veteran to teach him the nuances of the game. The thought alone is fearsome, which will make Lam a top pick, if not THE top pick.

Vincent Ong is Team Dasma's current head coach, as well as a reserve forward on a stacked lineup. Aside from coaching, he is generally the player who gets the mop-up minutes when games are out of reach. He is famous for having collected numerous blocks against the now-defunct P2W club. Ong may be the most unselfish player in Dasma because of his fear of shooting. That said, Ong is more of a college walk-on rather than a pro, so teams will probably be looking at Ong not for his on-court skills but for his recruiting abilities and coaching.

Harwin Chen is Team Hellboy's designated point guard. As such, he has proven himself to be an unselfish distributor and a key part of the Hellboy defense. He plays hard and is a fierce competitor when the game is close, as can be seen in his ball pressure. He is also one of the fastest players in the PCBL, which makes him a threat in the open court, well in tune with the Hellboy's run-and-gun offense. Using that speed and a solid handle, he can also penetrate well, adding fluidity to the Hell offense.

However, his overall skill-set is underwhelming. His jumper is unreliable, causing defenses to fall back and wait for him to drive, challenging the guard to take a shot outside his range. In a league with so many scoring guards such as Theus Dy and Marvin Ang, Chen is a throwback to the low-scoring distributor guard, for better or for worse. That said, while unselfish, Chen has not really stood out as a true point guard on the Hellboys offense, though that could be caused by the Hellboys' system. Still, his assist numbers are not all that impressive. That could be an issue when teams are looking for a true distributor on offense. Of course, with all those scoring guards, Chen is often tasked with defending them night in and night out, a testament to his strong defense. Teams looking for a defensive-minded point guard should pay attention to Chen.

The Next PCBL Feud

Reports have arisen that a rivalry has been simmering between Carl Kuason of the Hellboys and his former proteges, now members of Team Sexballs. The tension was noticed after a confrontation allegedly caused by the Sexball's recent no-show in the planned PCBL double-header earlier in the month.

Kuason apparently had a verbal confrontation against Brent Ong, one of his former proteges in the now-disbanded basketball faction The Idols. No physical violence was reported though residents of the area were disturbed by their argument. The police did not pursue further action because no residents pressed charges.

Kuason, Ong, and shooting guard Kenyon Wong once formed one of the most dominant groups in basketball, The Idols, guided on by their numerous groupies, calling themselves the evolution of basketball players. At one point, the three held all of the awards of the now-defunct PCSA, with Kuason, the leader, as the league's Defensive POY and MVP, Ong as the 3-Point contest Champion and rebounding leader, and Wong as the league's top offensive player and thief. However, egos emerged within the group and Wong was eventually expelled from the group after he won the MVP award, angering Kuason. Kuason and Ong, now a duo, opted to operate as such until Ong started to also steal the spotlight from Kuason. To prevent more problems within the group, Kuason decided to operate in the PCBL while Ong plied his trade in PCBA, expanding the reach of the group across two leagues.

Ong, however, has raised the ire of Kuason with his return, as well as Wong's, to the PCBL in the form of the Sexballs. Tired of sharing the spotlight, Kuason cut off all ties with the two and is now operating solo once again in search of the MVP trophy. He may now be plotting the downfall of his two former associates, as some experts claim that Kuason, known for the cerebral assassination of his foes, could have orchestrated the absence of the group in the recent PCBL double-header, causing the Sexballs to forfeit their scheduled match against Dasma. Kenyon Wong was the only player to appear, but since rumors have arisen of the Kenyon present being an impostor, the plot only grows curiouser and curiouser.

It is unknown how this rivalry will effect the PCBL, so tune into BSPN for the latest PCBL news and rumors.

Royce Ong, another of Team Dasma's wily veterans, is one of the team's glue guys, and now, also one of the league's elder statesmen. He provides defense, rebounding, and toughness at the wings, while also providing the occasional outside shot. He is your atypical key role-playing small forward, such as Battier on the Grizzlies and the Rockets. He does everything BUT score lots of points. This has caused him to become a valuable player on the Dasma, but also causes some of his contributions to be overshadowed by his high-profile teammates. Nonetheless, his colleagues undoubtedly respect him for his contributions, especially when he turned down a bigger role in Team DNF to remain in Team Dasma. He is one of the foundations of the team, and deserves recognition for it.

Still, he has yet to become the "perfect" team player. His outside shooting still lacks the game-to-game consistency that should be expected of him, and that hurts the rest of his game. His ability to create his own shot is also in question, thus limiting his potential. And in a game that stresses star power, this could hurt his stock. Still, every great team has its key role player, often at the "three". The Spurs has Elliott and then Bowen, the Pistons had Aguirre and then Prince. Teams looking for their own version will be looking at Ong to get them over the hump and into contention.

Ron Tiu did not gain his reputation as one of the PCBL's deadliest gunners for nothing. His shooting has long wowed both league officials and players, and his range has extended as his career has progressed, now reaching beyond the arc, adding to his potency. Though known primarily as a shooter, the rest of his game has progressed well enough, as he has enough quickness to guard the perimeter and his ballhandling is suitable enough for slashing. His rebounding is also good, as evidenced by a recent double-double. With work, he can become a strong glue guy, such as a young Robert Horry, who complemented the duo of Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon with his slashing, defense and shooting. Tiu could do the same in Dasma.

But could is a strong word. Tiu isn't there yet. He lacks the stamina to be able to keep up in the later stages of the game, as his shooting in particular diminished as the game goes on. While he can slash now, he still hasn't shown the affinity to finish near the basket. He often uses a baseline floater, but it hasn't been all that effective in scoring. He needs to take advantage of his reputation as a gunner to be able to cut, but he hasn't taken advantage of it as of yet. Nonetheless, Tiu is a solid basketball player, and if he can continue to improve, there is no duobt that he can be a strong contributor as a 4th or 5th option in a talented club.

Kenyon Wong Claims Impersonation

Those are the reactions of an irate Kenyon Wong after seeing the box score of the controversial Hell-MNM game. It appears that the Kenyon Wong that was present at the game was an impostor, which has caused great concern in the league for the sheer number of scandals in the PCBL today.

Kenyon Wong has testified to BSPN that he did not appear in MNM-Hell matchup, as he was "doing something" during that time.

He further claims that he had left the building after participating in the Dasma scrimmage that occured after the Sexballs failed to appear.

We cannot confirm or deny these accusations at this time. But as service to Wong, we will be editing the box score.

Point-Shaving Scandal Rocks PCBL

It is a dark day for the PCBL as a point-shaving scandal has emerged in the league after discrepancies were observed in the scoreboard and the statsheet.

Here's the tale of the tape:

When the discrepancy was observed, the statsheet showed the the Hellboys were leading 97-70. The scoreboard, however, claimed that Hell led 83-70. The final score was 100-70 and 86-70 after Hell hit a three. The game ended soon after.
When the discrepancy was noticed, the field goals made and 3 pointers made for the Hellboys clearly showed that Hell has scored 97 points. MNM's total of 70 was also correct when seen in the stat sheet.
MNM's total is unquestioned because of the equal total. So it is the Hellboy score that is in question.
Only one BSPN writer handled the stat sheet while many people handled the scoreboard.
The BSPN writer is neither a Hellboy nor a member of MNM. Those people who handled the scoreboard were members of either team, though a certain player was seen gallivanting near the scoreboard looking suspicious.
After research, BSPN has uncovered that L2p was once accused of point shaving already. In a bout against Team Dasma, Dasma players have claimed that they won by only 28 when they in reality won by 60. They claim that a certain L2P member (who claimed that he scored 16 against Hell in today's game, fat chance) had also tampered with the scoreboard in that game.
Dino reacted angrily when the discrepancy occurred, which is natural. That certain L2P member just laughed and claimed that someone cheated. He proceeded to advertise his own website.
Some website claimed that the BSPN statkeeper was paid off to do it after a conversation with Lester Sy. That conversation with Lester Sy was made to warn them of a fine if the Hellboys were late to the match. Also, it should be interesting to hear the wiretap since cellphones don't have external wires.

Hellboys Win Controversial Bout Versus MNM

In a match that was full of controversy and intrigue, the Hellboys went away with the win over MNM, 100-70.

MNM, left without regulars Jansen Calalan, Calalan Jr., Hans Chua, Theus Dy, Lemuel Lim, Daniel Lim, Franz Yao, Jefferson Hernaez, BCML, Ervin See, and Kerwin Ng, was unable to showcase its loaded lineup. The team signed its 3d, 4th and 5th acquisition in 24 hours to make up for this, adding Kenny Te, Kenneth Co, and in a big surprise, Sexball Kenyon Wong. Nonetheless, MNM was the underdog, playing without three-fifths of their projected starting lineup.

The Hellboys weren't exactly flaunting complete attendance either, as mainstays Ryan Cu, Harwin Chen, and Eldon Tan were all unable to attend. The Hellboys signed Aldrich and Ken, both of whom go only by their first names, like Nene, to combat their losses.

That said, the instant classic that was expected did not come to pass, as MNM fell into a hole early, falling behind by a large margin. The Hellboys were led by forward Carl Kuason's three-point barrage early and the dominance of Lam and Sia inside. MNM, meanwhile, was unable to find an offensive rhythm with all of the new players.

MNM was able to roar back early in the second hour, caused by a flurry of fast break points and triples by Dino, and helped by a Hellboy offense that was suddenly unable to click. However, a scoreboard controversy occurred at this point in time, which caused the game to be delayed. After the stoppage, Dino crashed on a strong drive and apparently suffered another game-ending injury. With the game out of hand, both parties decided to end the game early, with the margin at 30 and just minutes left on the clock.

Carl Kuason had 33, 9 and 4 to lead the Hellboys and Brian Lam had 14 points and a season-high 31 rebounds in the contest. Dino led MNM with 23, 12, 3, 6 and 3 while Kevin Te had 16 points and 8 rebounds.

BSPN Preview: PCBL Double-Header

Tomorrow, Team Dasma Meets the Sexballs and MNM takes on the Hellboys in this week's PCBL double-header. Expect two great games from some great players. But what makes the games so great are the X-factors in each of them. Thus, be ready for some players to step up and others to come out flat tomorrow. Whether they do the former or the latter could be the difference between victory or defeat.

GAME 1: Team Dasma Versus Sexballs

Keys to the Game

Dasma- Outside Shooting, Point Guard
Team Dasma has been hobbled by inconsistent outside shooting this season. When they hit, they win. When they don't, they get blown out. Dasma will need good shooting nights from Van Lim, Marvin Ang, Ron Tiu and Geordan Ong to have a chance. Also to be noted is their lack of a point guard after JR Tan's retirement. Without a designated replacement, it should be interesting to see who steps up to handle ball-handling duties. If ball movement suffers, look for Dasma's offense to sputter, leading to a loss.

Sexballs- Chemistry, Ring rust
Meanwhile, the Sexballs have their own issues to worry about. After a long lay-off, players might not be accustomed to the pace of the PCBL. Team chemistry is also a concern. If the players click, this team could be amazing. If the offense is disjointed, they could be in for a long afternoon.

X-Factors

Dasma- Van Lim, Royce Ong and Marvin Ang
Van Lim needs to continue his solid play to help keep Dasma's offense going at its regualr pace. Ang needs to play his A-game tomorrow, as key Dasma players will not be available. He'll have to recver from his most recent slump if Dasma is to win. Meanwhile, Ong is expected to play interim point guard tomorrow, he'll need to keep the players happy, bring up the ball, AND play his typically-strong defense. He'll need to do it all tomorrow for Dasma to pick up the W.

Sexballs- Kenyon Wong, Brent Ong
Wong and Ong are looked upon as the key players in the loaded Sexballs lineup, and they'll need to show it tomorrow. Ong has to rebound the ball and shoot the three effectively. Wong has to drive to the hole and finish using his quickness and athleticism. He cannot miss those inside shots if the Sexballs want to win.

GAME 2: MNM versus Hellboys

Keys to the Game

MNM- 3-point shooting, Rebounding, Ballhandling
MNM lives and dies by triples. They'll need to hit plenty of them tomorrow to keep up against the Hellboys' high-octane offense. Otherwise, they'll need to score in the paint, and against the Hell frontline, which boasts luminaries such as Sy, Sia, Lam, and Kuason, that will be a challenge that Hernaez and Ke might not be able to handle. Ke and Calalan have to stop Lam from dominating rebounds inside. Otherwise, second-chance points could kill MNM on both sides. At the same time, MNM will have to be wary of the Hellboys trademark press. If MNM cannot handle it, they are basically giving up points since they are not a good defensive team. Dy and Dino will have to exert effort to bring the ball up, which does not bode well for their stamina. Somebody will have to help them, or the strength of the high-scoring duo could be neutralized before they even start their offense.

Hellboys- 3-point shooting, Defend Dino
The Hellboys meanwhile will have one thing written on their dry-erase boards- stop Dino. If there is anyone in the PCBL who could score at will against Hell, it's Dino. Look for Marvin Yu or Lester Sy to try putting the shackles on the PCBL's top scorer. They'll need to. Hell also needs a good night from three. After a poor shooting night almost caused them to be upset by Dasma in their previous game, Hell needs Cu, Tan and Yu to start hitting 3s at their usual clip to fuel Hell's offense, as Lam's production alone won't win them the game against a similarly-strong offense such as MNM's.

X-Factors

Hellboys- Marvin Yu, Jon Sia, Ryan Cu

Yu has a lot to do tomorrow. He'll have to keep scoring those 20 a night, and he'll have to defend Dino. Sia has to be a presence inside to prevent Lam from being sandwiched by Ke and Calalan inside. Cu will have to recover from a poor shooting night against Dasma and start hitting his threes for Hell to stay in MNM's pace, and help open things inside for Lam to take over.

MNM- Theus Dy, Jansen Calalan, Jefferson Hernaez

Dy will have the responsibility of relieving offensive pressure from Dino, as well as take on the Hell press. He needs to do so in order for Dino to not overextend himself again and get injured, like what happened against Dasma. Calalan has to help Ke out inside for Ke not to be dominated. Calalan also needs to keep grabbing those offensive rebounds, as MNM can make up for missed threes (of which there are sure to be plenty) with putbacks. Hernaez has to be able to score inside so that MNM doesn't simply throw up threes every possession. If MNM does so, Hell won't find much difficulty in playing defense and that makes their offense that much more threatening for MNM's still-soft defense.

MNM Resigns Lemuel Lim

In a busy evening for MNM, Lemuel Lim was resigned by MNM to shore up its already loaded bakccourt.

"He is a longtime PCBL veteran who has already learned to play. He adds defense and hustle to our team. He should be a great help to the locker room as well since he knows a lot of our guys here, too." said MNM center Gerald Ke.

Lim is the second guard to be signed this evening, as Kevin Te was signed just an hour ago. Contract terms for Lim's deal are unknown.

Once again, no other MNM player has commented on the sudden signings. The backcourt now looks extremely tight, with Dy, Hans Chua, Marvin Chua, Lim, and Te all fighting for minutes. All will be unveiled tomorrow in their match with Hell, but for now, it looks like Dy and Te will have the edge.

MNM Signs Kevin Te

In a momentous acquisition for the team, MNM signed guard Kevin Te to a deal, inking him to a 25-Aktivade, one-month contract.

"Te brings a lot to our team. He can really shoot the ball, and he'll put the pressure off me. He will be a key player for a long, long time." said MNM captain John Chua Dino.

Te adds the veteran help that Dino lacked in DNF. He has been a mainstay in other basketball leagues and his addition gives the PCBL additional star power to showcase. Te should help loosen pressure inside with his outside shot and he'll be another scoring option for the run and gun lineup.

It is unknown how other MNM players have reacted to the signing. Guards Hans Chua and Marvin Chua should be especially noted, as their minutes will likely be cut to make room for the new gun.

This could also be the last straw for Theus Dy, who has reportedly been displeased with his diminished role in MNM. Dy has already been rumored to be contemplating starting a new team but nothing official has been stated.

THSO's selections:

1. John Chua Dino, SG, MNM

Dino is currently tearing up the PCBL with his fantastic outside shooting and athletic drives. His defense is suspect but his 3 steals per game will help negate that. His ability to take over a game with is offense is something that cannot be taught. His potential to become a star makes him a likely No. 1 pick.

2. Kurt Ty, PF, Team Dasma

Kurt Ty has had a whirlwind debut with Dasma, one that has skyrocketed himself to the top of the PCBA Draft. Ty's body is already well-developed, unlike some skinny/unfit PCBL players. He is unarguably the most fundamentally-sound player in the PCBL with amazing basketball IQ. His low post moves are polished and his rebounding will help any club. His defense is very good and he can defend on the perimeter as well as inside. However, he lacks the killer mentality to take over a game. He'll let his teammates get theirs and lets the game come to him. Unselfish, yes, but also a waste. That puts him just a peg lower than Dino in the rankings.

3. Carl Kuason, SF, Hellboys

For the third pick, it was a choice between the paint-oriented Lam and the perimeter-based Kuason. Kuason gets the edge because of his polished offensive game, one that is more complete than Dino's. He can post up, shoot and drive. His passing is solid though sometimes flashy. His defense , however, like Dino's, is more on producing steals and blocks. He lacks the consistency of Dino, as Kuason tends to have his peaks and valleys. His stamina is also lower than Dino's. He also has not been able to show the takeover ability that makes Dino special because of his inconsistency. That puts him at No. 3.

4. Brian Lam, F-C , Hellboys

Lam is a ferocious inside player whose stock has dropped because of nagging injuries. Nonetheless, his rugged style of play and pitbull mentality makes him a solid addition to any team. He had 24 and 23 in his previous game, proving that his trademark explosiveness was retained post-injury. He is a bit thin but makes up for it with his toughness, enough to dominate the burly post players he goes up against. His three-point shooting has slowly improved as another weapon in his arsenal. Though he lacks the upside of other players, what he is is more than enough to go and dominate both the statsheet and the game.

5. Gerald Hernandez, SF, Team Dasma

Hernandez has been but his added explosiveness and athleticism should make Dasma Cavite select him over fellow Dasma star Marvin Ang. Hernandez doesn’t possess Ang’s polished perimeter jumper but his playmaking ability is on par with Marvin and the added rebounding and assists is very enticing. His time at the gym, though causing him to miss games, has not hurt his quickness and has helped him hold his own in the paint. His three-pointer, though a work in progress, is developing and could become a key weapon in his arsenal. His mid-range shooting is mediocre but then so is everybody else's. He can play like a star in spurts though he also fades away at times. Once again, it is inconsistency that detracts from his overall package.

6. Gerald Ke, C, MNM

Many teams play the drafts hunting for one word- POTENTIAL. That word makes GMs drool, as they hunt for future stars. Ke is one player who exemplifies potential this year. With a muscular yet still athletic body, worker mentality, good hands and the learning mind of a scholar, Ke has a chance to become an amazing big man. Of course, potential always has a tag partner in tow- INEXPERIENCE. Ke is learning, but he still lacks a consistent offensive game, and his outlet passing is poor. Still, with Jansen Calalan in MNM, Ke might just learn a thing or two.

7. Marvin Ang, G, Team Dasma

Ang has been all over the place with his inconsistent play. He has a great game against DNF before having another dud against the Hellboys. If he doesn't fix that tendency to disappear, he could plummet down these rankings. Still, when his game is on, he can match up with the best of them. He possesses a streaky jumpshot that extends beyond three and is fast enough to get into the paint. If he can add consistency to his finishing in the paint, as well as from outside, he can be a strong scoring threat.

8. Ralph Keng, F, Team Dasma

Keng is arguably the most athletically gifted player in Team Dasma. He plays hard and defends like a madman. His rebounding has returned to his standards, and he appears to be healthy after some injury-plagued seasons. However, his offense still needs work, and one tends to wonder when Keng's next injury could occur. He has potential to become a do-it-all swingman with his physical talents, but he's just not there yet.

9. Mark Gue, F, Team Dasma

Gue’s polished low post skills and rugged rebounding are one of Team Dasma's mainstays in the PCBL. His perimeter game has slowly developed, with a solid dribble drive and a developing three-ball. His hands are still one of the best in the league, and his IQ is one of the highest in the PCBL. Sadly, his stock has dropped after accusations that Gue was playing without fire and giving less than 100%. His numbers have dropped and his once-dominating play has only shown up in flashed this year. Gue can still right this turbulent ship, but if he goes on at this pace, he could see a fall in the rankings.

10. Marvin Yu, G, Hellboys

Yu gets this high in the rankings for his strong play as of late. He is scoring at a torrid pace, averaging more than 20 points a night. His shooting has been solid enough and his defense is still rated as one of the best. His turnovers are marring a stellar statsheet however, and his mercurial reputation may hurt his stock.

Big play against Hell and in exhibition pushes Van up and up on the board.

Dasma C EJ Sy Takes Leave of Absence

The Dasma Exodus continues. After JR Tan's sudden retirement just a few days ago, center EJ Sy has followed suit, taking 1 month of unpaid leave from the team.

"We have long expected this. His heart just hasn't been with Team Dasma the past few weeks. He should take his leave to recommit himself to the team." said Dasma guard JGO in the press conference announcing the center's departure.

EJ Sy has said that he would be pursuing a career as a swimming instructor.

"I don't know why our players keep switching to water-related careers," said Dasma forward Royce Ong, "it's kinda disturbing, if you know what I mean."

After some research, BSPN found out that Sy would be taking a whole-day job as a swimming instructor for 10-12 year old girls. None of the players on Team Dasma would comment on this.

EJ Sy's role in Team Dasma has diminished since the end of last year. Once a starter, his unspirited play has relegated him to the backup pivot spot behind Keng, Ty and Gue. His minutes have slowly decreased and he has taken some DNPs in the past few games.

EJ Sy was suspended earlier in the month after being late to consecutive games. He has also been levied fines due to missed games.

Expect Team Dasma to go small in the wake of Sy's departure. Without any replacement big man for Sy, expect Dasma forwards Royce Ong and Ralph Sy to play extended minutes at the 4 spot while Keng, Gue and Ty play the 4-5 spots.

Afternoon Double-Header On Friday

The PCBL will be holding a double-header this Friday to inaugurate the new season of the league. It aims to showcase all the teams of the league after a tumultuous off-season where two teams merged (P2W and DNF), one disbanded (H2P), and another came back from limbo (Sexballs).

The first game will be Team Dasma versus the come-backing Sexballs. The game will be held from 1-3 pm. This will be Dasma's first game since the sudden announcement of starting point guard JR Tan's retirement. It will also be the first game back of the Sexballs, who are instantly one of the favorites for the PCBL Cup. It should be interesting to see Team Dasma's new team dynamic without their mainstay. Also worth observing is the Sexballs' ability to play after a long lay-off.

The main event will be MNM versus the Hellboys. It will be the debut of the merged P2W-DNF team, which now boasts one of the most intimidating starting lineups in league history. It should be interesting to see how captain John Dino has recovered from his knee injury suffered against Team Dasma, as well as the overall chemistry of the team. Also to be noted is that this will showcase the match-up of two of the PCBL's most celebrated players, Kuason and Dino. A high-scoring game is to be expected and this game is not to be missed.

JR Tan Announces Retirement From PCBL

In breaking news, Team Dasma guard JR Tan has chosen to retire from active duty in the PCBL. He has opted not to renew his contract with Team Dasma and has apparently decided to end his basketball career.

"After a long and productive career in Dasma, I have decided to end this chapter of my life. I look forward to my new career as a lifeguard and am hoping that it will be as successful as my tenure here." said the longtime fan favorite in an exclusive interview with BSPN.

JR Tan leaves Dasma after making his mark in the Team Dasma record books. He is in the team's all-time Top Ten in points, three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted, assists, steals, rebounds, field goals made and attempted, blocks and turnovers. He is also the only player to have been selected to the PCBL All-Interview Team more than once.

The guard had just returned from a previous injury which caused him to miss considerable action. After returning, he immediately made the transition to point guard and won a place in the starting lineup. BSPN experts had already projected him as a first-round selection in the PCBA Draft before the shocking announcement of his retirement was made.

Tan was once a member of Dasma's much-ballyhooed 2004 Draft class, joining now-PCBL-vets Geordan Ong, Ryan Cu, Jefferson Hernaez and Kerwin Ng in an astounding haul by the team. He signed a gargantuan 12-month, 85-Aktivade extension with Dasma last year, one that expires this April 15. He joins Dasma guard Van Lim as Dasma players with expiring contracts.

Though Tan claims that his departure was amicable, rumors have arisen that there is more to the story than just that. It is no secret that Tan was courting JGO's sister Gwen Ong. JGO's apparent rejection of Tan as a possible selection may have driven Tan to leave the team. There are also whispers claiming that JR Tan's constant teasing of JGO as a possible cause of a rift between the two, causing team concept to suffer. Odds are, it is JGO's fault that JR Tan is retiring.

This leaves a void in Team Dasma. They have now lost their starting point guard, wily veteran, and team elder. Many expect Royce Ong to take his place as point guard, though Van Lim and Milton Ang are both dark horses for the spot. His departure also leaves Team Dasma 60 Aktivade below the salary cap, giving them ample salary to sign a big name acquisition.

Team Dasma officials have made no comment about their guards sudden departure.

Dasma Edged In Exhibition Game

Team Dasma was defeated earlier today in an exhibition match against the visiting Liempo and Friends, losing 3 closely contested matches against top-flight competition.

Liempo and Friends is led by their charismatic captain Liempo, the second-cousin-twice-removed of Team Dasma guard Geordan Ong. The two (currently) friends apparently challenged each other to a friendly match.

Sadly, Geordan accepted without putting into consideration that Liempo's team was full of current college basketball players, making Team Dasma the clear underdog, going up against 6-footers. Adding to that, Team Dasma was without JR Tan, Gerald Hernandez and EJ Sy, making it easy to see how the team was at a disadvantage.

True to that, Team Dasma lost the game against LNF. Physically overpowered, Team Dasma was defeated in all the scrimmages between the teams. To add salt to the wound, Dasma guard Marvin Ang was injured after receiving an errant elbow. He is now nursing a black eye. Nonetheless, he is not expected to miss any games.

"This is a learning experience for us all," said Dasma guard Van Lim, "we must play a higher level to match up with LNF."

Speaking of Van, he was again a pivotal part of the Dasma offense, putting his teammates into shock. It is believed that Van's second-straight breakout game could be caused by the fact that he is in contract year and his future is still uncertain. He was not expected to be resigned by Dasma but his strong play could force the team into doing so.

Lester Sy, F, Hellboys- Had 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks against Dasma. If his shooting can improve, he'll be an excellent boon to non-scoring stats.

Team Dasma faced insurmountable odds against a complete Hellboys squad in their last match-up. Left without their starting frontcourt, to whom would Team Dasma turn to for scoring? Why, none other than Van Lim! As improbable as it may be, the guard led team Dasma in scoring, putting up a career-high 20 against the tough Hellboys defense. He also produced 5 steals against the vaunted Hellboy backcourt. Both of his three-pointers came in Team Dasma's late-game run, putting the team as close as 2 points behind before finally succumbing to the more talented team. For that, Van Lim is BSPN Player of the Week.

Sexballs Return to the PCBL

After a dismal record last season in the PCBA, the Sexballs basketball team has been relegated to the PCBL once again. This brings the current PCBL lineup to 4 teams, namely, the Sexballs, MNM, Team Dasma, and the Hellboys.

The Sexballs struggled to a 3-8 record last season in the PCBA. Thus, the PCBA commissioner deemed that a return to the PCBL would best benefit both parties. The Sexballs will be active immediately, though no debut has been scheduled.

The Sexballs are currently composed of the brothers Gregg and Glenn Palao, Alfredo "Ashong" Tan, Kenyon Wong, Brent "Brong" Ong, Dale Chong, Michael Lim and Kervin Chan. They are expected to fulfill the PCBL 12-player minimum in a month or face a fine.

The Sexballs were once the most fearsome team in the PCBL. So much, in fact, that PCBL officials sold the team to the PCBA to support parity within the PCBL. In the PCBA, egos flared leading to one of the team's founders leaving the team. That caused disarray within the squad, leading to losing records and general disappointment.

Now, the team is here to redeem its tarnished reputation. The team has already issued an open challenge to any team willing to face it. Reports say that the team's debut will be in the main event of a double-header involving all the PCBL teams.

After a crushing loss to Team Dasma, John Chua Dino made the decision to find more capable teammates, merging his DNF squad with the erstwhile P2W. This fortifies both squads with much needed firepower, putting them at par with established clubs like Dasma and the Hellboys.

Think about it. With Dino, Hernaez, Dy, Lim, and Ke, their starting five is actually one of the most fearsome in the PCBL. Dino handles the perimeter stuff, Dy can drive and dish, Hernaez is phenomenal in the paint, Ke does the dirty work, and Lim will rain down spot-up threes. Ke's potential is of course still very high. In time, this team could be amazing.

Or it could be a total bust, getting broken up after a few games when that very starting 5 starts to fight amongst themselves for the ball. Remember, Theus Dy dominates the ball for P2W, Dino does the same for DNF. What will happen when they come together on the same team? Can they coexist? Or will they implode like Shaq/Kobe? Also note that Hernaez and Lim also need the ball. The only winner is Ke, who will grab plenty of offensive rebounds as his teammates keep shooting.

One should also be concerned about team chemistry. Jansen Calalan, who blossomed as the center of DNF, may become disgruntled with his likely demotion to backup. It's a shame, as the undersized pivot was able to hold his own against the trees he faces every game. It will be interesting to see how much he plays now, with all the ironmen in front of him in the depth chart. He is not the only one facing a downgrade. Kerwin Ng, Hans Chua, Yogi, Bench Body, and Ervin See are all going to see limited minutes. Let's see if they complain about it.

Also to be mentioned is the team's vast pool of potential. Potential cannot be fully nurtured on the bench. With P2W's lineup of youngsters, MNM's future could be very bright. But not if the young players are glued to the bench. They'll need PT to develop. The youngsters need playing time. But then so do the vets. MNM management is now faced with a dilemma. Are they going to play for the future or for the present? That's a real tricky one.

One should also wonder how MNM will play. DNF played a perimeter-oriented offense with Dino, See, and Lim all shooting from distance. P2W on the other hand plays inside with Dy, Hernaez and Ke all doing most of their damage in the shaded area. Coach Theus Dy will have a hard time balancing the two, as old habits die hard, and players will always stick to what they already know. Chaos could ensue when players struggle with going inside or just shooting. MNM's offense will suffer if that happens.

MNM is now a looming x-factor in the PCBL. It could blow up into an overnight sensation, or it could just blow up. Time will tell if it's the former or the latter that occurs.

Team Dasma Fined 150 Aktivade For Dress Code Violation

To add insult to injury after a heartbreaking loss to the Hellboys earlier today, Team Dasma was fined a total of 150 Aktivade for multiple violations of the newly-implemented PCBL dress code.

"We believe that our players must uphold a certain standard of appearance and behavior. We will not condone such individualistic behavior, especially since those pants and slippers were SOOOO last season." said PCBL Commissioner JPO.

Aside from the team fine, Milton Ang has been given a 20 Aktivade fine for wearing slippers in their previous game against DNF. A 30-Aktivade fine was levied on JR Tan for wearing maong pants in the aforementioned loss to the Hellboys.

Team Dasma has made no comment about the fines.

No word if previous dress code violations, such as P2W/MNM guard Alexiv Dy's topless basketball games and fellow guard Marvin Chua's casual attire, would also be fined by the PCBL.

The new PCBL dress code states that players must wear jerseys or t-shirts and shorts. Rubber shoes are also required. A newly implemented article states that supporters are now also required.

"It for their good. If their privates suffer because they didn't wear supporters, it won't be our fault." said the Prisoner of Azkaban, who has been hired as JPO's assistant.

Hellboys Escape Dasma 86-81

Left without its leaders, Team Dasma was not expected to put up much of a fight against a complete Hellboys team. Instead, the team showed its grit and the end result was a near-upset, putting up a rally before falling to the Hellboys 86-81.

In a game where Dasma was missing key starters and reserves in forwards Mark Gue, Gerald Hernandez, Kurt Ty, and Ralph Sy, as well as center EJ Sy and the team's most recent leading scorer Milton Ang, the load was left to the rest of the team to carry. Guards Marvin Ang and JR Tan were expected to lead the way, but seeing as they combined for a mere 23 points, it is a wonder how the team kept the game competitive.

The Hellboys built a large lead during the first hour behind the strong play of Lam, whose production came mostly in the earlier stages of the game. Team Dasma was able to hold on behind 9 early points from Ron Tiu. Lam dominated inside without the defensive pressure of Gue and Ty, as Keng had trouble handling him alone. Both teams shot poorly as the summer heat was clearly affecting both teams.

However, Dasma was able to gradually reduce the lead behind solid defensive play and the continued poor shooting of both teams. Van Lim scored 14 of his 20 points in the second hour as Dasma crept back into the game. He, Royce Ong, and Geordan Ong all hit three-pointers in Dasma's comeback run.

The rally fell short when Hellboy guard Marvin Yu scored in the post to put the lead back at 6. Marvin Ang and JR Tan both missed long jumpers in the endgame and Carl Kuason was able to secure key rebounds as the game came to a close.

Team Dasma was led by guard Van Lim, who had a career game with 20 points, including 2 three-pointers in the final minutes. Ron Tiu, who has been in a season-long shooting slump, had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Ralph Keng shook off his rebounding problems with 20 of them against the Hellboys' Brian Lam, accompanying a game-high 7 steals.

As for the Hellboys, Lam shook off any remaining rust with 24 points, 23 rebounds and 4 steals. Guard Marvin Yu continued his strong play as of late with 21 points. Carl Kuason, who arrived late in the game, was still able to produce 11 points and 11 rebounds, as well as 2 key blocks and a rebound when the game was in its final stages. Lester Sy had 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Some additional observations from the game:

It appears as if Team Dasma is making a fashion statement in the PCBL, as JR Tan played the game in maong pants. In the team's previous game against DNF, Milton Ang played in slippers. No word on how PCBL commissioner JGO will react to this.
MNM rookie Bryant Lim was to play for the Hellboys after signing a one-game contract but PCBL officials voided the agreement. Thus, the forward was a mere spectator in the game.
EJ Sy was once again absent in the game. He will now receive a major fine for repeated offenses.
This is the first time that Team Dasma hit more threes than its opponent. The team hit 7 threes to the Hellboys' 6.
Due to lack of players, Team Dasma Coach Vincent Ong started for his team. He had 2 steals and 1 turnover.

Another Feud arises in Team Dasma as Gwen Ong, Geordan Ong's twin sister but of course not with the same face obviously, has been torn between 2 lovers. Gwen Ong has been courted by SJCS star Justin Uy and Dasma Guard J.R. Tan. Justin Uy has reportedly gave Geordan Ong a box of Chips Ahoy! but J.R. Tan countered with a box of OREO and a box of Tiny Winnie. So there has been an another problem for team Dasma, expect Guard Justin Tan and Geordan Ong to miss at least 1 game for their Family Feud on Gwen Ong.

Milton Ang Named BSPN Player of the Week

Milton Ang receives the BSPN Player of the week after scoring 34 points in Team Dasma's win over DNF. He also had 4 steals and 5 rebounds and helped hold DNF star John Dino to 3/13 from 3-point range. He did all that coming off the bench, giving Dasma a much-needed boost from the second five. He shot 85% percent from the floor, helping the team shoot 61 percent as a whole. He also did this playing in slippers, giving him style points. His inside finishing gave Dasma the advantage and pushed the team to its 40+ point win.

One day after the merger of DNF and P2W was finalized, the new team's owner John Chua Dino has finalized the official team name. He has dubbed the new team as MNM, standing for Mean and Masculine. The team will make its debut next week in a game against Dasma at Dasma Gym.

Before suffering an injury that may cut short his PCBL season, Dino was having a dream season that could've propelled him to the top of the Lottery. He is leading the PCBL in scoring, wowing fans with his athletic drives and loooong three-pointers. In his last few games, he has lit up the scoreboard for 50, 47, and a PCBL-record 81 points. Aside from the scoring, he leads the PCBL in three-pointers made and is in the league leaders in steals and minutes played. He leads his team on and off the court, and his play has helped DNF to a surprising .500 record.

Unfortunately, his recent injury has jeopardized has chances of being the No. 1 pick. More than that, DNF's recent loss to Dasma exposed Dino's deficiencies, including his lack of a mid-range game and streaky jumper. He shot a poor 3/13 from long distance in the game and had little to offer aside from the scoring. Only two other DNF players were able to score in double-figures, showing his inability to make his teammates better. He shared the team lead in turnovers.

Nevertheless, his impressive offensive display prior to his injury should convince most sane owners to draft the guard. He is one of the most athletically-gifted players in the PCBL, with a strong yet smooth stroke from downtown, as well as the vertical leap and speed that give him the ability to get inside the paint and score or dish. He shoots with ease, ensuring that his shooting will not suffer as the game goes on. His vision is acceptable though he tends to finish the play himself. His decision-making and shot-selection need improvement though that should develop as his teammates improve themselves. He is a force of nature on offense and can score whether wide open or in traffic. That offensive will is what makes him a likely top-5 pick. His defense, though unspectacular, especially on the ball, is still improving and is partially remedied by his random key defensive plays/stops, which are known to demoralize the opponent when accompanied by the player's famous trash talk.

Dino is not a finished product by any means. His offense is incomplete, and his defense is mediocre. But even with those flaws he has dominated the competition and is arguably the best offensive player in the PCBL. And he's still improving. That tantalizing potential is what makes Dino such a hot commodity, and a surefire high pick in the PCBA Draft.
